Scrap buyers usually pay a percentage of the gold content to cover refining and margin; offers vary by dealer.
How scrap gold is valued
Buyers weigh your item, test its karat and pay a share of the gold it contains. The melt value is weight × purity × the live price per gram. Dealers then pay a percentage of that value to cover testing, refining, transport and profit.
Payouts differ between buyers and depend on quantity, so compare several offers. A payout of 70–90% of melt value is a common range in published dealer terms, but the actual figure is the dealer’s choice; use the selector to see the effect.
Tips before you sell
Check the karat stamp (for example 750 = 18K, 585 = 14K, 916 = 22K).
Weigh the item without stones, since stones and non-gold parts are not gold.
