How to use this gold calculator
The calculator multiplies the weight you enter by the purity of the karat and by the live price per gram. The price per gram is the spot price of gold per troy ounce divided by 31.1035, then converted into your currency with the latest exchange rate.
Example: 10 grams of 22K gold at a spot price of $4,000 per ounce and an exchange rate of 1.00 is 10 × 0.9167 × (4,000 ÷ 31.1035) = about $1,179.
The result is the value of the gold content. A jeweller’s selling price adds making charges, taxes and margin, and a buyer’s offer subtracts margin. To estimate what a dealer might pay, use the scrap gold calculator.
