Result = (exit price - entry price) x contract size x lots for a buy. For a sell the sign is reversed.
Example: buy 0.50 lots of gold at 2,000 and close at 2,010. The price moved 10 dollars, 10 x 100 x 0.5 = $500 gross profit. If the exit had been 1,990 the result would be a $500 loss.
The figure is the gross result. The spread, commission, overnight financing (swap) and any currency conversion reduce it. For short-term trades the spread is usually the largest cost, so a trade needs to move beyond it just to break even.
